Where are the bears in the sky?
The little bear Bron climbed alpine and looked at birds, he liked to watch them. The weather was wonderful; the sky was so bright that there was a wish to blink the eyes. The bear was never jealous of birds. He envied nobody at all. He did not want neither to fly as a bird at all, nor to float as fish, nor to live as people.
Тhe little bear was absolutely happy with everything in the world, and the thing he liked most of all was being a bear. The little bear played and mucked about all day long, and in the evening came to the lawn where often rolled on a grass, and set. He lay and watched how the sunset melted, the sky darkened and covered with stars, he remembered about eating tasty raspberries, patting his tummy.
And here he heard a human voice:
“Look, over there… you see? That is a Great Bear”
“Does that mean that the little one is there too?”
“It does! The sky is so clear tonight”
The bear turned his head and noticed a tent and talking people not far from him. He was really frightened, as men were known to easily shoot a bear and then he would not be able to eat anymore raspberries, but, it appeared these people did not have any guns. Although, you could never trust them, you would never know what is hidden in their tent. Hesitating a little, Bron decided to leave very quietly and imperceptibly crept away from a lawn. The whole next day Bron spent being thoughtful about the night before. It must be a joke, bears in the sky? He had never seen them!
Puzzlement of a little bear was noticed by the grandfather bear and he asked:
“What happened, Bron?”
The little bear told everything, about a tent with people, both about their conversation and how he crept away from the lawn and that he saw no bears in the sky.
“You need to be more careful” the grandfather bear answered, “People are very dangerous beasts, they want our fur and meat. I know about those bears in the sky, come to my hill tonight when the stars appear”
The bear came to the hill as soon as the first star appeared. The grandfather was waiting for him.
“Look, he said, over there where three bright stars are shining, that is the head of the Big Dipper, and those stars are it’s body. This constellation is sometimes called the big ladle, nearby is a little bucket, you see, it is called Little Dipper”
“Does that mean, there are no bears in the sky?”
“There are, but these are star bears, our keepers, and our mascot. While these stars shine, bears will exist”.
