private kiss– возможно, нежный, чувственный поцелуй: He put

Таким образом, private – это личный, частный, домашний, индивидуального пользования или владения, уединённый, тайный, секретный, негласный, конфиденциальный, неофициальный, закрытый, невидимый, сокровенный, предназначенный для узкого круга, понятный узкому кругу, не любящий говорить о себе, ценящий независимость и т. д.
Выражения to be private, in privateможно перевести только в контексте:

Privatelyимеет несколько значений. Одно из них – «наедине» – 'with no one else present' [LDCE]: Your cousin wishes to speak with you privately. We will withdraw, leave you alone together (B. Bradford). Другое значение объясняется следующим образом: if you think or feel somethingprivately, you do not tell anyone about it [LDCE].
