— Hi James. It was nothing. I just prevented a girl, a fellow journalist from falling down.[125]
— Oh, that’s what it was then. But I must have seen you also encouraging someone else to fall down on the floor in the video distributed by all the major networks. Am I correct?[126]
— Not quite, sir. I was just protecting a fellow journalist.[127]
— I see. Are you sure you don’t want us to evacuate you from Crimea ASAP?[128]
— Absolutely, sir. I am fine.[129]
— Ok, then. But could you do me a favor and promise not to engage in that kind of acrobatics while you are on assignment. You know, we don’t feel comfortable with a staff photographer who also works part time as a Chuck Norris.[130]
— I promise, sir.[131]
— Oh good to hear that. Now between me and you how did you do that? How did you pull this off with an armed bloke twice your size? Just out of curiosity.[132]
— It was accidental, sir. I didn’t mean it. And the guy was not armed. And he just stumbled. And... I did some boxing in college in my time.[133]
— Some boxing. Good for you. But please keep your secret talents to yourself next time around.[134]

Результаты «референдума» подсчитали за один день. Аннексию оформили без единого выстрела. «Крымнаш, Крымнаш, Крымнаш!» — орали толпы на улицах Симферополя и Москвы.
А по телеку сразу на двух российских федеральных каналах уже показывали как под копирку сработанные репортажи о том, как живется украинским военным, присягнувшим России в Крыму после аннексии.
Вот неловко улыбающийся украинский военнослужащий примеряет новую, удобную, непромокаемую и непродуваемую форму. Рядом лежит старая — помятая и потертая.
А вот бывший украинский подполковник признается на камеру, что только сейчас впервые почувствовал себя настоящим офицером, а раньше, в украинской армии, только «придуривался».
